KERRY has once again dominated the annual Tripadvisor Top Irish Beaches list, but a local beach doesn’t hold the No.1 spot.

Banna Strand, a previous winner, is at No.2, last year’s winner Inch Beach is at No.3, Derrynane is No.5, Coumeenoole Beach in west Kerry is at No.6, Rossbeigh at No.8 and Ladies Beach in Ballybunion is at No.9.

They were all beaten by Inchdoney Beach as Cork gets one over on Kerry. Other beaches on the list were Strandhill in Sligo, Lahinch in Clare and Portmarnock in Dublin.

Kerry Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris has congratulated all those involved in maintaining Kerry’s beaches. Speaking after the announcement Deputy Ferris said: “The TripAdvisor results for our beaches in Kerry is recognition to all those involved in the protection and maintenance of our fantastic natural amenities.”

“While many of us take our beaches for granted, a huge amount of work goes into the upkeep of the coastline, to the local communities and voluntary groups who keep a close watch and carry out voluntary cleanups each year.”

“Also Kerry County Council spends considerable resources on maintaining and safeguarding our beaches. All those involved deserve a huge amount of gratitude and these results should be a reminder to the general public to keep our beaches to the highest possible standards and we all have a role to play.”
