PHOTOS: The Barriers Come Down On The Mall And It’s Coming On Well

The Mall on Thursday afternoon.

SOME of the barriers lining both sides of The Mall came down this week and the first thing you notice is how much space there is!

The barriers came down from Costa Coffee/Penneys down as far as Elverys/Easons and  while it’s far from the finished article, it looks really impressive, if a little bare at the moment.

Many people have wondered aloud about the absence of trees and where they would be planted, as there weren’t any holes left in the paving for them.

The simple answer is that the trees will not be planted into the ground at all. They will be ‘planters’ in pots. The shaded grey area in the photo above will be where cars will travel down the Mall.

There will be planters and street furniture lining both sides of this area. These won’t be in place until later in the autumn.

The work will be suspended from Friday, August 11, during the Rose of Tralee Festival when the traders stalls will be set up in the open area.

Work will resume from August 28 until the scheduled completion date on November 21 when we should have a brand new town centre to be proud of.

Work underway in the Mall on Thursday (it was lunchtime when the photo was taken in case you’re wondering where the workers are!).
