Barry John And Cormac Keep Their Promise To Donal Walsh

TWO Kerry stars remained true to their word when they visited an old friend over the weekend.

Barry John Keane and Cormac Coffey, both tasted All-Ireland success this year, something they had promised they would do for anti-suicide campaigner Donal Walsh, before he passed away in May last year.

They visited his graveside up in Rath Cemetery on Saturday after coming from the Kerins O’Rahilly’s juvenile training grounds. There to meet them were Donal’s mother Elma and sister Jema who were delighted the lads kept their promise.

“We said we’d keep our promise and he’d keep his promise to look after us,” said Barry John Keane.

Both Barry John and Cormac, picked up their first All-Ireland medals for Kerry against Donegal sides last month.

“Me and Cormac met Donal shortly before he passed away. I promised him I’d bring home Sam and Cormac promised he’d bring home the minor All-Ireland for Kerry,” said Barry John.

“To be honest, it worked out well because, Cormac wasn’t on the minor team last year and I wasn’t on the senior. It was good timing that both of us came on board with Kerry this year,” said Barry John.
