Big Increase In COVID Cases In Tralee LEA

THE number of new COVID-19 cases rose significantly in the Tralee Local Electoral Area in the 14 day period up to Monday, December 6.

There were 488 new confirmed cases in that period compared to the 394 in the fortnight up to Monday, November 29, according to figures available on the Government’s COVID-19 data hub.

Tralee LEA has a 14-day incidence rate of  1,477 (up from 1,192.6) per 100,000 of the population, above the national incidence of 1,355 per 100,000 as of last Monday and is the highest rate in the county.

The incidence rate in Kerry is 1,017 per 100,000, the third lowest county in the country. In all, there were 1,580  new cases recorded in Kerry during the fortnight period, up slightly from the 1,546 cases recorded in the fortnight up to November 29.

Killarney Electoral Area saw 414 new cases, a current 14-day incidence rate of 1398 per 100k of the population.

The other four LEAs are below the national incidence rate. Listowel saw 267 new cases and a rate of 931 per 100,000. The Castleisland LEA saw 153 new cases and a rate of 892 per 100,000.

The Corca Dhuibhne Local Electoral Area saw 102 new cases and a rate of 719 per 100,000, the fifth lowest in the country.

Kenmare LEA had 156 new cases, a rate of 622 per 100,000, the third lowest in the country.

There have been 15,173 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kerry, since the pandemic began according to the latest data.
