Big Increase In Kerry’s Live Register Over Space Of One Month

THE live register figure for Tralee increased in November by 50 people from the previous month, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.

There were 3,370 people signing on last month compared to 3,320 in October. The figure is down 523 on the same month in 2017, a decrease of 13%.

In Kerry, there were 7,606 people signing on last month which is a 10% increase on the October figure of 6,912.

Killarney’s live register increased by a third from 941 in October to 1,253 last month. Dingle increased by an even larger percentage (36%) from 382 to 523.

Killorglin also saw a big increase of 15% on October from 491 to 568, Cahersiveen was up 22% from 271 to 331 and Kenmare rose from 215 to 291 (35%) in the space of a month. Listowel was the only town to see a decrease  from  1,292 to 1,263.

Despite this, over the course of the past year, the Live Register figure in Kerry fell by 14%, from 8,853 in November 2017 to 7,606 last month. The unemployment rate in the county now stands at 5.3%.

    The figures are all smoke and mirrors!
    Correct me if I am wrong?
    But, if you are unemployed and placed onto a scheme like a The Community Employment (CE) or Tús or any other of the numerous scheme providers by the quangos then you are not counted into live register figure as unemployed.
    This is why Ireland had an lowering employment figure early on in the recession as there schemes kicked in and continued to has a nice low figure of unemployment now, unlike Portugal, Italy, Greece or Spain (the other PIGS nations).
    Yes, the economy is doing well and there is a real reduction in unemployment in the last year or two. However, Ireland is not the EU poster child it pretends as the facts are purposefully disfigured for both domestic and international political purposes.
    These facts and figures serve their true purpose well and are just government propaganda or fake news.
