Big Rise In New Car Sales In Kerry Last Month Compared To November 2020

NEW car sales were down significantly in Kerry last month compared to November 2020, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

There were 30 new car registrations in the county in November 2021 compared to eight in the same month last year, an increase of 275%.

Eight of those sold last month were Toyotas, six Skodas, four Volkswagens, three Fords and three Kias, two Nissans and one each for Peugeot, Opel, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Renault.

In the first 11 months of this year there have been 2,205 new car sales in Kerry while last year there were 1,932 in the same period, an increase of over 14%. Nationally, new car registrations are up over 19% at 104,563 sold.

So far this year, Toyota is the most popular make of car in Kerry with 288 units sold, with the rest of the Top 5 made up of Hyundai (284), Volkswagen (25o) KIA (230) and Ford (227).

The Hyundai Tucson is the most popular model sold this year on 150 units, with Kia Sportage (101), Toyota Corolla (83), Ford Focus (77) and Volkswagen Tiguan (71) making up the top five.

Diesel cars are the most popular engine type with 860 units with 660 petrol. Next is 348 petrol/electric hybrid vehicles sold, a rise of over 54% on the same 11-month period in 2020, 110 Electric vehicles (+96%); 108 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+151%);  108 diesel electric (+620%);  nine petrol/gas and two Diesel/Plug-In Electric Hybrid.
