Billy Keane Takes On Ambassador Role For Culture Night

Looking forward to Culture Night 2016 in Kerry; Billy Keane, Kieran Mackessy (winner of U12 melodeon at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016) Kate Kennelly Arts Officer KCC, John O’Dowd of F-Fest, Caitriona Fallon of Siamsa Tíre and Claudia Kohler of Kerry County Museum.

BILLY Keane will be Kerry’s Culture Night Ambassador for the event which will see events take place in Tralee and all over the county.

“I’m delighted to be Kerry’s Culture Night ambassador,” says Billy. “Culture is about people coming together, telling stories, dancing listening to music, poetry. It is part of everyday life in Kerry and it is great that Culture Night shines a light on the importance of our living culture across Kerry.”

Tralee’s Culture Night will be launched by the Mayor of Kerry, Cllr. Terry O’Brien at 8.15pm at Siamsa Tíre on Friday, September 16. Siamsa is hosting a range of events for Culture Night – kids can create their own bee or butterfly to join the virtual garden currently in place in the gallery. There will be also be dance workshops for kids and sean nós singer and musician Feargal Ó Murchú will give an insight into his life as a performer. Welcoming the Stranger by Catherine Young receives another outing after its highly praised premiere at Féile Fáilte.

Culture Night in the Tralee Municipal District is packed full of events – as well as Siamsa Tíre there are events that cover craft, art, film, music, theatre visual art, history and literature all over the town.

Culture Night is an easy-going, relaxed way of enjoying all that’s on offer in towns and villages around the county. In Tralee you can go from venue to venue, sampling as much music, film, literature and dance and theatre as you can fit in, while Brosna Comhaltas hosts a Culture Night seisiún with Irish music, dance and singing at the Parish Hall, Brosna from 7 – 9pm.

In Listowel the Seanchaí Centre is opening its doors from 5 – 7pm with a tour of the writers’ museum, giving you a chance to immerse yourself in the words of John B. Keane, Bryan MacMahon, Brendan Kennelly, Maurice Walsh and George Fitzmaurice while out in The Square there will be a session with Ballydonoghue / Lisselton CCÉ from 8-9pm and the All Ireland Wren Boys Competition from 9 – 11pm.

Culture Night 2016 is on Friday 16th September. Arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late with free events, tours, talks & performances for you, your family and friends to enjoy. So get involved!
