THE photographer who took that award-winning photo of Tralee lit up by fireworks during the festival told how he waited up in Listellick to get the shot.
Many people who have seen the photo were confused as to which part of the surrounding area the shot was taken from but Billy Horan revealed it was from the north side of the town.
The Scartaglin man accepted his cheque for €200, the winning prize in the Tralee Chamber Alliance’s Images of Tralee Photo Competition, at a special awards ceremony on Tuesday evening at the Chamber’s offices in Denny Street.

“I was after coming back from climbing Mt Brandon that evening so I decided to take the shot coming back from out west.It was taken from the Ardfert side of Listellick so to speak,” said Scartaglin man Billy.
“I thought it was starting at midnight but it was 12.30 before they started. I waited and shot it at just ISO 100. I was delighted that they picked it as the winner. It’ll come in handy for Christmas,” he joked.
There were four runner-up photos and eight other highly commended shots picked by the judges and the photographers were present to accept their prizes from CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kieran Ruttledge and enjoy refreshments thanks to Denny Lane Bistro.
