John is originally from Blennerville but left the village decades ago. He still has many relatives in the area including brothers Denis, Billy from Casement’s Avenue, Paddy from O’Rahilly’s Villas and Helen from Blennerville. He found out the good news of his big win last Wednesday night when he checked his ticket following the Lotto draws.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes!” he said today as he collected his cheque. “I gave the ticket to the wife [Mary] and said, check that, and she said, it’s true you’ve won!”

John phoned his daughter Annette and son Timothy, with whom he is sharing his winnings, to confirm the good news. “They didn’t believe me”, John said.

“When I got the call I thought: Oh, he’s really lost the marbles now!” said daughter Annette, who also lives in Williamstown, and is married to Joe. They have three children – Claire, Kevin and David.

John’s son Timothy lives in Partry, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. Married to Anne, they have four children, six year old twins Padraic and Tadgh, Cathal (4) and Sarah (1).
