Blennerville School’s Basketball Tournament Remembers Tony

The late Tony O’Donoghue who was remembered with a basketball tournament at St Brendan’s NS Blennerville.

THE final day at school in Blennerville was an active one on Thursday as a local man was remembered with a special event.

A basketball tournament final took place in the school hall in memory of Tony O’Donoghue, who died in 2014 from cancer. Tony was a fond friend of staff at the school and they decided to do something to honour him.

“Dad did a lot for the old school so Terry O’Sullivan, the principal decided to put on a basketball tournament  with a trophy in his memory,” said his daughter Andrea.

“I think it’s going to continue every year with fifth and sixth class pupils taking part. It was going on for the last five or six weeks. It was a lovely gesture by Terry,” said Andrea, who was there to present the Tony O’Donoghue Perpetual trophy to the winners before the summer holidays kicked in.
