PUPILS from St Brendan’s NS in Blennerville took part in a fundraiser recently to help out Pieta House.

The school is trying to attain Amber Flag status. The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises the individual efforts of primary and secondary schools, youthreach, third level institutions, community groups and clubs to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being.

The school has an Amber Flag committee made up of fourth class pupils and raised €546 with their ‘Grá Stones’ initiative.

The pupils collected stones on Cockleshell Beach, cleaned and decorated them with messages like ‘love’, ‘grá’ and ‘joy’, selling them for €2 each to fellow pupils on Valentines Day.

The school has also held a friendship week and encourages positive affirmations which also goes towards their application for the Amber Flag.

Former pupil of the school, Con O’Connor of Pieta House, was on hand to accept the cheque on Tuesday. He thanked the pupils and the school for the generous donation and said he looked forward to visiting again when they attained the Amber Flag.
