THERE were celebrations in St Brendan’s NS Blennerville this week as their team won the County Final of the Concern Primary Debating Competition.

Held at the Education Centre in Dromtacker on Monday, it was a great achievement as 18 other schools from around the county took part.

‘Homework Is An Essential Part Of A Child’s Education’ was the motion debated against Knockaderry National School  in the final and the Blennerville pupils won the day. It’s the first team from the school to claim the county title.

Michael O’Connor and Ger Madden, coached and helped the children — Paddy Moran, Sarah Brett, Roisin Griffin, James Dowling, Kelly Fitzgerald and Callum Houston throughout the process in competition which has been running since 2013.

The six members of the team must be very popular with their fellow pupils in Blennerville as the whole school got homework off on Monday night to celebrate the victory.
