Blennerville/Ballyard Youngsters Prepare For National Community Games

TEN young people will represent Blennerville/Ballyyard in this year’s National Community Games in Athlone.

The games will take place at Athlone IT over two weekends – August 12 to 14 and from August 19 to 21.

Competitors from the group are drawn from a huge area that stretches from Derrynane to Ballyard and even going to Tralee town as far as Strand Road and Ballyrickard.

“We are delighted and extremely proud to have 10 talented children represent not only us but Kerry in various events,” said Blennerville/Ballyard Community Games organiser, Marie Fitzgibbon.

Locally, it was a successful year for the team who won 23 medals in total. Five gold, five silver, eight bronze and five certs. Along with four relay certs – three in athletics and one in swimming.

They will represent the area in swimming, gymnastics, athletics and group-singing, facing off against hopefuls from the 26 counties.

There are a number of categories to compete in at Community Games ranging from talent to sporting events, art, handwriting and team events, quiz, chess and many more.

“We in Blennerville/Ballyard are looking for help and volunteers for the committee so that next year we might enter even more events,” said Marie. “Thank you to everyone who has supported Blennerville/Ballyard community games and we will continue to keep you up to date with results and events as they happen,” she added.
