THE new Kerry blue jersey was unveiled over the weekend and come Sunday, Mayo will be the first team to go up against the Kingdom in the Munster colours.

“The response to the shirt has been very good. People have been waiting for the blue jersey since before Christmas,” said Niall O’Callaghan at Kerry GAA Store.

“The last blue shirt we had sold very well. It’s a bit early yet to tell whether this one will do as well, but it looks very impressive. Mayo will love it again on Sunday!” he joked.

Like the home jersey, the new blue shirt got a retro makeover. The shirt will also feature 38 rings on the back, each ring signifying a senior All-Ireland win – 37 Football, 1 Hurling.

Kerry will wear this shirt for three years. In 2011, there was an issue with a dark blue used against Limerick in an All-Ireland quarter-final in Croke Park.

The players complained that they found it difficult to find each other in Croke Park. This prompted the county board to change the colours to a lighter shade and a more traditional Munster blue.

The shirt is priced at, €62 for adults and starting at €30 for kids.
