SEANAD Éireann is set for a ‘Micktatorship’ should Emergency Medicine Consultant, Dr Mick Molloy, succeed in his bid to be elected as an Independent Senator to the NUI Panel.

He has presented the voters in his constituency with a four-point plan for bringing about change:

• Protect the Education System that helped deliver Irish prosperity with specific emphasis on children with additional/special educational needs
• Promote effective patient centred reform solutionsand Implement a new prescription for health in this country
• Rejuvenate the Seanadʼs unique potential by delivering meaningful reform of the entire political system
• Deliver professional regulation reform to enhance the potential of Irish- graduates

Dr Mick Molloy, an Emergency Consultant at Bon Secours Hospital Tralee and Wexford General Hospital, said: “Our constituency cares about the Upper House and many able NUI members have served meaningful roles there in the past. If elected I intend to carry on their legacy of representing the disenfranchised, defending human rights, enhancing personal liberties and being an independent voice for tolerance where necessary and dissent if required. Health policy has been a passion of mine for over 20 years and at this point in time we do need public representatives who focus on the issues which the populace are most concerned about and which impacts them the most , both positively and negatively.

There is a vacancy now for a new NUI Senator and I am asking you to give me your Number One vote when you receive your ballot paper. I would be very proud to represent you in Seanad Éireann.”

A Dublin native who went to school in Counties Wicklow, Wexford and Galway, Mick Molloy has described himself as an independent in the true sense for the University Seanad seats.

As a junior doctor, he worked in a number of hospitals in Ireland including: St Vincent’s University Hospital Elm Park, St Michaels Dún Laoghaire, Our Lady’s in Crumlin, Naas General Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown and Beaumont Hospital. He also spent a period abroad working in Beth Israel and Deaconess Medical Centre Boston within the Harvard Medical School Network specialising in Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management.

Dr Molloy is a Registered Specialist in Emergency Medicine with the Irish Medical Council. He holds no membership or affiliations with any political party but he has worked quite closely with all of the parties in the early 2000s.

A father of three, Dr Mick Molloy is committed to working towards bringing about meaningful reform of the Irish political system to create a fully-functioning Seanad which represents all areas of society.

His parents were both teachers, representing their respective Unions ASTI and INTO which gave him a strong insight into fair play and the importance of education.
