THIS week Inspired were delighted to announce a three year funding agreement totalling €51,000 with the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee.

Manager at Inspired, which offers a five day educational programme to adults and young adolescents with intellectual disabilities, Liz Maher said; “we believe that no single organisation or resource is able to respond effectively to the diverse needs of each individual with an intellectual disability.”

“At Inspired we believe in actively engaging with businesses and organisations at local level, particularly when they have a vested interested in spurring systems of change for those facing multiple barriers to employment. The Bon Secours was a natural choice as we are aware of their contributions to the local community.”

The not-for-profit organisation has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years and not only addresses education, but also focuses on self-advocacy initiatives, employment and transition programs and community integration.

Owen McCarthy, Hospital Mission Leader at Bon Secours Tralee said; “Through our Community Initiative Programme, Bon Secours Hospital Tralee invests annually in projects that respond to the needs of the most vulnerable in our communities and that bring about a social good. We do this by assisting charities, charitable causes and not-for-profit groups such as Inspired in the outstanding work that they are doing,”.

He went on to say; “While our care within the Bon Secours Health System is summed up by our brand line ‘advanced medicine, exceptional care’, our care goes beyond the walls of our hospital through our Community Initiative Programme.  The projects we support are a key way in which we translate our Catholic Ethos, our Mission and Values, into action for the wider local community. We believe that, through our Community Initiative Programme, we can act as a catalyst in tackling social issues by assisting local charities and not-for-profit groups in the outstanding work that they are doing in response to the healthcare and related social and economic needs of the community and we are delighted to support Inspired”.

At the moment a number of initiatives including offering work experience are being explored by Bon Secours Hospital Tralee to support the innovative “Education to Employment “e2e” Programme which is currently under development by Inspired.

Liz Maher said that they hope to announce more details of the programme in the new year and it is anticipated that the hospital will spearhead the initiative.
