NO sooner had referee Maurice Deegan blown his whistle for the end of the match yesterday, than you could almost here people typing away on their various devices trying to book transport and a place to stay for the All-Ireland final weekend.

The scramble is on and looking through a few websites, some of you have already been very busy.

The flight back to Kerry on Sunday, September 20 is already booked out, with just a 12.30am flight (€70.99 per seat) from Farranfore to Dublin, arriving at 1.30pm available. You might make the end of the minor match if you’re lucky!

The 7am train on Sunday morning is already booked out, but the evening ones back to Kerry are still available. Irish Rail is bound to add on at least two or three more special match trains in the next few weeks to watch out for them.

On the accommodation front, there are wallet-worrying options in the city centre if you plan to make a weekend of it.

By Tuesday morning there were just 35 out of 280 properties offering rooms for a two night stay (Saturday and Sunday) on booking.com. The average price for a two night stay was €373, but if it’s a half-decent place in a good location you’ll be paying a lot more.

For just the Saturday night, there are just 19 properties offering rooms with most city centre ones over €350. On Sunday there are 115 places available to stay and you’ll get a room in a good location for just over €200.

A double room in the city centre for those two nights will set you back between €500-€600 in most three and four star hotels, with some cheaper options on the outskirts.

For just the Saturday night there are only 19 properties with rooms left and almost all are over €350 in the city centre, while just for the Sunday, prices go down a good bit and you’ll get a city centre hotel for around the €200 mark.

But you better act fast, because if Mayo win on Sunday, they’ll all be snapped up immediately.

On the other hand, if Mayo lose, you might see a lot of rooms suddenly become available with some mass cancellations by well-prepared members of the red and green army.

We’d never be that cocky to book a room for the third Sunday in September before even winning a semi-final, now would we? Ahem.
