A BURST water mains out in The Kerries created a six foot deep hole on a road in The Kerries on Monday.

Bernard O’Keeffe and his wife Clem sent in photos of the hole to TraleeToday.ie. They came upon it on Monday evening and immediately contacted the gardai. The couple stayed at the scene warning any motorists of the potential danger, until the gardaí arrived soon after.

Gardai cordoned off the hole, which could have caused serious problems for motorists and cyclists. The hole appeared less than a foot away from an ‘X’ marked by Irish Water workers the week before, when they were in the area responding to complaints from local residents about low water pressure in homes.

The hole has now been filled in, but residents are calling for more to be done about water problems in the area before more appear.
