EOIN Liston’s nickname was the subject of a security alert on a flight last weekend.

Kerry GAA legend ‘Bomber’ was travelling home with friends who enjoyed David Moran’s stag party in Cheltenham, when a friend of the seven-time All-Ireland medal winner called out his nickname at a loud volume on the plane.

The air hostess on the Cardiff to Cork flight became concerned and the man was asked to stay back after landing to speak with the pilot. ‘Bomber’ stayed with his friend in case he was needed. A Google search was required to explain the situation and the problem was resolved.

It wasn’t the first time his nickname has caused a bit of a stir. Speaking this morning on Radio Kerry, he told a story of a time he and Ogie Moran were in Castlewellan in Co. Down in the 1970s, during the Troubles.

After playing a football game they retired to the bar where Ogie, getting the round in, called out “Bomber!”. The bar fell silent and Ogie continued “…is it a Heineken?” thus defusing the situation.
