VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help co-ordinate and marshal the multitude of events planned for this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival from  August 16-22.

The 2016 Rose of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney, took time out of her busy schedule to thank the current volunteer panel and encourage new personnel to join a great team of people who work tirelessly to make the Festival a success each year.

The deadline for receipt of Volunteer Application Forms is Friday, July 28.

Prospective volunteers will gain first-hand experience of working on a large international Arts and Culture Festival that has such a rich and celebrated history.

The Volunteer Coordinator, Michelle Reidy, who has been involved since 2013 and previously in the 1980s and 1990s, said: “Volunteers are certainly the life-blood of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and their involvement is vital to the successful running of this major event. She said that the general public would not enjoy the parades, fireworks displays, live music and street entertainment without the presence of an efficient, skilled and dedicated team of volunteers. The duties of the volunteers over the week of the Festival will include being part of teams for the various events throughout the week of the Festival.”

All volunteers will be given health and safety training, will be provided with a team uniform, access to meals while on their breaks and a chance to win the ‘Volunteer of the Festival Award’.

A minimum of four 4-hour shifts and full-time volunteers who cover a minimum of eight 4-hour shifts will receive some extra goodies including free tickets to events.

Most of all, however, they are an integral part of something special and get a chance to be hands-on and up-close with events such as the Rose Parades, Fireworks Displays, on-street entertainment, Festival Dome events and much more.

“Volunteers must be 18 years of age or over, have enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to help the Festival in its celebrations especially with this year’s exciting programme of free and affordable events” said Michelle Reidy.

Kerry Volunteer Centre, who play a vital role in supporting Volunteers and organisations in Kerry, will also assist in the recruitment process.

If you would like to be part of the event please contact the Festival office by phone 066 7121322 or download the online volunteering form at www.roseoftralee.ie or email volunteers@roseoftralee.ie. Application forms must be returned by Friday 28th July 2017.
