CREATIVE Ireland Kerry at the Arts Office of Kerry County Council is calling for participants to take part in a new dance project with Catherine Young, Dancer in Residence at Kerry County Council.

Catherine has organised a taster workshop on Wednesday, July 12 at 2pm in Siamsa Tire. Ages 16 years and upwards, adults and young people are welcome.

It is intended that the group will work towards a Showcase Performance at Siamsa Tire for Culture Night on Friday September 22 this year. Previous dance experience is not required just a willingness to commit to rehearsals.

The dance piece is a follow up to ‘Welcoming The Stranger’, a contemporary dance piece which premiered last year and was invited to the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine.

Catherine’s goal is to bring communities together, to work with local dancers, amateur and professional and also with new communities such as refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

“The mix of nationalities is one of the underlying goals of the dance  project as it allows us all to get to know each other a little better,” Catherine stated recently.

Catherine uses the creative forum of dance and music to bring communities together, and through this the group explores topics relevant to life in Kerry today.

Rehearsals for the new dance piece will take place over the month of August at Siamsa Tire in Tralee, but participants from all over the County are welcome. People are asked to contact Catherine directly at catherineyoungdance@gmail.com
