A MAJOR fundraiser for a local GAA club will see people take off from town to enjoy the beauty of the west Kerry peninsula all in one day.

The St Pats GAA Club 2015 Dingle Way Challenge will take place on Sunday, May 31 and promises to be an exceptional day on the mountains, beaches and paths of West Kerry.

This year’s event is sponsored by Benner’s Hotel Tralee – which is offering great overnight packages for out of town visitors – and will host the club’s social evening for all participants on completion of the challenge.

“We’re delighted to be associated with an event of such an active nature, which will showcase our peninsula to participants. Hopefully we’ll get good weather and with the way it’s been run over the past few years it’s bound to be a success,” said Alan O’Sullivan of Benners Hotel.

The Challenge is a 40km walk taking participants from the foothills of Mt Brandon around through Ballydavid, Wine Strand, Clogher Strand, Dunquin, Slea Head and finishing in the famous Paidi O’Se’s bar.

The route takes in some of the most incredible scenery our country has to offer with views over the Blasket Islands, the historical village of Dunquin, Slea Head drive and many of the places made famous by the film Ryan’s Daughter.

The Challenge is achievable for most people with a reasonable fitness level and the club has  included an extra Ultra section which begins earlier in the morning for those who wish to test themselves further.

This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a real opportunity to explore the Dingle Peninsula in a fun, safe and challenging environment.

All funds raised will be used for the development projects the club is undertaking to enhance facilities for players, members and the greater community.

So get up early, test yourself, meet new people and see what the west has to offer.
