The ‘Recovery Kit’ is a nice stocking filler for Christmas.

RECOVERY Haven Kerry Cancer Support House has put together a novel Christmas ‘Recovery Kit’ in recognition of the particularly challenging year so many people have endured.

An ideal stocking filler for Christmas, the creative 2020 Recovery Kit has been put together by the charity’s volunteers as a means of sending love and encouragement to everyone who has faced many unprecedented challenges in 2020.

The special kit, which is on sale via Recovery Haven’s Facebook page shop for €4 (or three for €10) contains a selection of small items, along with a message explaining what each item stands for.

Among the items included are ‘a candle to make your day bright’, ‘a plaster to heal you when you’re hurting’, ‘a string to help hold everything together’ and ‘Fizzy sweets to give your life a bit of fizz’.

Most importantly, each kit also contains a tea bag and corresponding poem, which the charity’s manager, Siobhan MacSweeney, explains is Recovery Haven’s way of letting people know that while we may be distanced for now, we are still very much together:

“The teabag comes with a poem encouraging everyone to share a cuppa on Christmas Day at half past three – and says, ‘when I think of you, you think of me’,” Siobhan explained.

The poem goes onto say that: ‘While 2020 has kept us apart, you will always, always be in my heart.’

Siobhan explained that the idea of the ‘Recovery Kit’ is simply to let everyone know that while 2020 has been a year of extraordinary challenges, we are here for each other no matter what.

“It’s just something small to show people that, no matter how difficult things are, Recovery Haven Kerry is always here to offer support and encouragement to those who need it,” she said. “2020 has been an extraordinary year but we want to reassure everyone that we are still offering a range of supports to cancer patients and their families, both in person and online. So if anyone needs us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
