Muckross Park Hotel and Spa Duty Manager & Wedding Co-ordinator James O'Connor with management and staff of the hotel wishing their colleague every success as a Rose Escort at the upcoming Rose of Tralee Festival.
Photo Don MacMonagle

Muckross Park Hotel and Spa are delighted to announce that their Duty Manager & Wedding Co-ordinator James O'Connor has been selected as a Rose Escort for this year's Rose of Tralee International Festival. Muckross Park are also James’s proud sponsors for this year’s festival and wish him the very best of luck for the exciting weeks ahead.
The Rose of Tralee International Festival is one of Ireland's largest and longest running festivals, celebrating 57 years in 2016. The festival brings young women from around the world to celebrate Irish culture and ultimately, crown the Rose of Tralee. The primary role of a Rose Escort is to look after his Rose and ensure her time at the Festival is a memorable and enjoyable experience.
More than 200 men applied to become Rose Escorts at this year's Rose of Tralee, with only 65 places available. Following a detailed interview process, the 65 were chosen and all Rose Escorts were put through a special Boot Camp in Kerry earlier this year.
The Boot Camp sets out to test their endurance and help them to cope with the demands of a very busy few weeks. James O’Connor was not phased by the Boot Camp experience, describing it as “so much fun” and “a great way to get to know all the Rose Escorts”.
James is due to graduate with a Hotel Management Degree this October, is originally from Tralee and has been living and working in Killarney for over four years. He is no stranger to the lime light and has performed in the Austin Stacks GAA Club’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2012. James is thoroughly enjoying the experience so far and is looking forward to the upcoming festival.
The Rose of Tralee International Festival takes place in Tralee from 17th – 23rd August and includes street entertainment, carnival, live concerts, theatre, circus, markets, funfair, fireworks, fashion show and Rose Parades.
Muckross Park Hotel & Spa are James’ proud sponsors and are delighted to have James represent the hotel this year. The 5 star Muckross Park Hotel & Spa is ideally located in the heart of the beautiful Killarney National Park and only 4km from Killarney Town Centre. Muckross Park Hotel is home to the world award winning Spa at Muckross, has been recognised for culinary excellence winning “Best Restaurant on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way” in the Gold medal awards and, provides the ideal location for a relaxing getaway.
