John Mulhern the New Kerry Airport General Manager Welcomes Babcock Decision To Locate Base In Farranfore

THE newly-appointed General Manager at Kerry Airport has announced that a new helicopter base will soon open in Farranfore to service to service the imminent re-opening of Ireland’s oil and gas exploration industry.

The Chairman of Kerry Airport, Denis Cregan, in the company of the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Mr Brendan Griffin TD, formally welcomed John Mulhern at a special gathering of elected, business, civic and community representatives at Kerry Airport.

A Waterville-resident, the new General Manager at Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, said: “I’ve landed in Kerry Airport at a very exciting and positive time for the Airport which plays such a key role as a gateway to Kerry. Passenger numbers were up 9% in 2018, a newly refurbished Fire Station is currently under construction, the Gateway Bar and Restaurant have been refurbished and the magnificent new-look Pre-Boarding Area in the Departures Lounge has led to an improved and more pleasant travel experience for outbound passengers. Now, the decision by Babcock locate a base at Kerry Airport opens a significant opportunity for the local economy to benefit from the imminent re-opening of Ireland’s oil and gas exploration industry. The new Babcock operations at Kerry Airport will be the base from which crews on the rigs will be taken to and from shore.”

Kerry Airport possesses modern and spacious hanger facilities, quick check-in and security, and multiple daily flights to Dublin and London with connections for an international workforce.
Farranfore is only 20 minutes from Tralee and Killarney by road and rail and less than an hour by road to two deep water ports – Fenit and Foynes - which have historically acted as oil and gas shore-bases.

John Mulhern, who has taken over from the recently-retired Peter Moore, was previously the Chief Operating Officer with responsibilities for Business Development at Mater Private Hospital Cork. Since joining Mater Private Cork in 2016 he played a pivotal role in turning what was a loss-making business into a very successful operation. He will be responsible for the effective delivery of all elements of airport operations within budget.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Board to ensure that Kerry Airport remains a major gateway between Kerry and global commercial and tourism markets for many years to come,” said John Mulhern.
Ideally located for anyone wishing to travel on business or pleasure, Kerry Airport services direct flights to seven destinations including: London Luton, London Stansted, Frankfurt-Hahn, Berlin, Alicante & Faro (summer 2019) with Ryanair, and to Dublin with Aer Lingus Regional.

John Mulhern has made his home in a quiet area close to Waterville in South West Kerry for the last 12 years and he understands fully the importance of maintaining and developing infrastructures that support the economy of Kerry and those traveling in and out of Ireland’s most beautiful County whether for business or pleasure.

Prior to moving to Kerry, he worked and studied in the United Kingdom including in the world-famous Harefield & Brompton hospitals. John also served for four years in the Merchant Navy as the Chief Ships Medical Officer.

John Mulhern was introduced as the newly-appointed General Manager of Kerry Airport at an event at the Airport on Monday 11th March at which Tralee Chamber Alliance and Killarney Chamber of Tourism of Commerce presented the former General Manager of Kerry Airport, Peter Moore, with a gift in recognition and appreciation of his 30 years of service. The Board of Kerry Airport will formally acknowledge and show their appreciation to Peter at a private function in the coming weeks.
