PRESS INFO -- Kerry Education and Training Board – Press ReleaseOctober 24th 2017Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) at its Board Meeting on Monday October 23rd 2017 approved the signing of the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the delivery of a Devolved Major Project for Listellick National School, Tralee for the construction of a new 8 classroom school and ancillary accommodation. Kerry ETB was requested by the Department of Education and Skills (DoES) to take responsibility for the construction of this new National School in Tralee. Kerry ETB is a provider of Primary / Post-Primary and Adult and Further Education and Training across Co. Kerry.The new school accommodation will include: 8 classrooms, General Purpose Room, Library, Multi Purpose Room, Special Education Tuition Room, Office & Staff Room plus ancillary accommodation.Speaking following the signing of the Agreement An Cathaoirleach of Kerry ETB, Cllr. Jim Finucane stated that “Kerry ETB is delighted to have been requested by the Department to take responsibility for the delivery of the building project for Listellick National School. The Education and Training Board is a statutory provider of education and training services with significant experience in the delivery of building projects and we look forward to the successful delivery of this project”.The CEO of Kerry ETB, Mr. Colm Mc Evoy in welcoming this development said “as the local Education and Training Service for Co. Kerry, I am pleased that the Board of Kerry ETB approved the signing of the Service Level Agreement between Kerry ETB and the Department of Education and Skills for Listellick National School. This is the first occasion on which the ETB has been requested to deliver a major building project outside of its’ own Scheme. We view the Departments request as a signal of its’ confidence in Kerry ETB. We look forward to working with the Board of Management, Principal, Staff and the School Community in progressing this project to completion for December 31st 2020.Responding to the announcement, the Principal of Listellick N.S, Ms. Annette Dineen said “Today is a great day for everyone in Listellick National School and our wider School Community. Tralee Credit Union honour their youth at Annual Prize Giving NightOver 150 people attended Tralee Credit Union’s Prize Giving Night dedicated to their Youth on Thursday night in Manor West Hotel, Tralee. Presentations were made to students from primary, secondary and third level for Tralee Credit Union’s Annual Art Competition, their Education and Dan Kellegher Memorial Awards and Schools Credit Union in Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School, Tralee,  Presentation Secondary School Castleisland and St. Patrick’s Secondary School Castleisland. Speaking to Fintan Ryan, CEO, Tralee Credit Union “Prizegiving Night is a great night for our winners and their families and is testimony of the commitment students, parents, teachers and schools give to the support of our youth activities. This year we received over 500 entries to the Credit Union Art Competition so it was an opportunity to display and showcase the work of our talented art competition winners. We were very proud to have the Tom Markham Cup and the Minor All-Ireland Champions Tomás O’ Connor and Michael Reidy, both from Ballymacelligott and Diarmuid O’ Connor from Na Gael on hand to present the prizes . All 1st prize winners will now go on to represent Tralee Credit Union at Chapter 23 (regional level) of the competition.  Having received a great response to our education awards, a total of €10,500 were awarded to this year’s winners and Margaret Kellegher, daughter of the late Dan Kellegher presented cheques to our two Dan Kellegher Memorial Award Winners. A special acknowledgement was also made on the night to last year’s Transition Years in Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School. On Tetra Pak Tree Day primary schools and families nationwide are invited to spend the day learning about trees and being outside enjoying their natural environment.  As part of this year’s campaign, over 1,000 Rowan tree saplings will be made available free of charge through the website, www.treeday.ie, for primary schools to help teach children about the importance of planting trees to improve biodiversity on the school grounds.
