Celebrating Killarney’s distinguished racing history ahead of the August Festival Race Meeting at Killarney Race Course.The first racing in the town was recorded in 1822, while the present, most scenic race course in Ireland, set against the backdrop of Killarney National Park was opened in 1936. This year Listowel Race Company are celebrating 160 years of racing at the scenic course, and racing highlights include the Ä40,000 Kerry Group Handicap Steeplechase (Sunday 9th); the Ä200,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase, Grade A (Wednesday 12th) and the Ä100,000 Ladbrokes Ireland Handicap Hurdle, Grade B on (Thursday 13th). As always, in addition to top quality National Hunt and Flat racing, the Listowel Racing Committee have organised an extensive range of free entertainment, including the Kerry Group family Day; daily race card draws with cash prizes, promotions, music and more.

The meeting opens on Sunday 9th of September with the Kerry Group Family Day, and other social highlights include the Best Dressed Man, on Thursday 13th and the Listowel Tidy Town / An Taisce - Best Presentation of an Up cycled/Restyled or Authentic Vintage Outfit on Saturday 15th of September. The fashion highlight, judged by Aoibhin Garrihy assisted by Marietta Doran, is the McElligotts Honda Ladies Day on Friday 14th of September with a total cash prize fund of Ä6,500 and the opportunity to win a Honda Civic for a year.

Admission is only Ä20 each day / OAP / Students: Ä12 and children under 12 have free admission to the race course, when accompanied by an adult.
