FORMER Tralee Town Councillor Cathal Foley has joined the Sinn Féin election ticket for the Tralee Electoral Area.

He was nominated by Cllr Toiréasa Ferris at county buildings in Tralee this morning. Sinn Féin will now have three candidates running in the Tralee area with sitting councillors Pa Daly and Toireasa Ferris having already been selected.

Speaking after his nomination Cathal said; “I understand what a daunting task it will be to take a seat in what will be a keenly contested election with some very strong and established candidates in the running.

“I am joining a very strong team with councillors Pa Daly and Toireasa Ferris consistently rated as the top performing councillors in the Tralee area.

“I look forward to working with my party colleagues to deliver a third seat for Sinn Féin in Tralee. With a third seat I believe we can make an even bigger impact on the future direction of policy on Kerry County Council.”

Cathal Foley (45) originally from Caherslee, is married to Joanne Naughton from Mitchel’s Road and they reside in Ballinorig with their three children, Conall, Odhran and Sorcha. Cathal has worked as a Parliamentary Assistant to Martin Ferris TD since 2014. He previously ran a carpentry/joinery business in the Boherbee area of the town.

He was previously a member of Tralee Town Council from 1999-2014. Educated at Holy Family National School, CBS The Green and Tralee Regional Technical College, he is involved in his local community and is a member of Kerins O’Rahilly’s GAA Club and cycles with The Chain Gang Cycling Club.
