THE Cathaoirleach and Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council will not be attending the controversial commemoration of RIC members in Dublin next week.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Niall Kelleher made the announcement via Radio Kerry this morning. While he could not go on the air to fully explain his reasons because he was suffering with a bout of influenza, he said he would not be attending on a point of principle.
The Leas-Cathaoirleach, Fianna Fáil Cllr Norma Moriarty, will also not be attending on a matter of principle. It is now up to Kerry County Council whether they will be represented at the event.
The Government is to commemorate those who served in the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Dublin Metropolitan Police prior to independence, at an event in Dublin Castle on Friday, January 17.
Maybe the Government should go all the way and just renter in to the kingdom of great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Maybe the Irish government think this type of official event will appease an Ulster Unionist minority in the even of an All Ireland? It won’t. The situation just reverses to the Unionist people entering into armed resistance at worst and polite resistance to restore a union at best. Maybe it’s just liberal left cultural Marxist tolerance as they no longer care about nationalism or patriotism as to them this is offensive to them, even if it gave them their freedoms. After all, Ireland is on the road to a federal European Union. Now, your loyalty is to a future federal EU and no longer an independent Ireland.
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it!
Yes, come to terms with history and let go of the hate. Yes, after all history is the past. However, you should know, appreciate and respect the knowledge of your own peoples history and if you commigrate any foreign controlled occupying force which assisted in your ancestors from achieving independence for hundreds of years. Then, your morals and standards in terms of respect to your ancestors maybe corrupt and you may not deserve to serve the nation for which they were exiled from, fought, suffered and died to form!
Commigrate your own people, culture and history is just basic self determination and respect.
A government that commigrates your peoples oppressors! well, sadly that says it all.
