Causeway School Spreading The Fairtrade Message

Posted by

STUDENTS from Causeway Comprehensive went to the Kerry ETB offices in Monavalley on Monday to try and persuade head office there to use Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade is a social movement, whose stated goal is to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability.

The presentation, was made by the transition year class in the presence of teacher Margaret O’Mahony and Kerry One World Centre staff, who have supported the students during the course of their lobbying project over the past school year.

It is hoped the presentation to Kerry ETB officials will result in an increased prioritisation of the purchase of Fairtrade tea, coffee and other products.

The project had been suggested by Education Officer of Kerry ETB, Ann O’Dwyer and is strongly supported by Chairman of Kerry ETB, Jim Finucane.

Causeway Comprehensive already attained Fairtrade school status last year with the support of Kerry One World Centre’s Global Schools Network.
