CBS The Green Secondary School Tralee has launched a programme of events for International Safer Internet Day on Wednesday, February 11.

Led by Transition Year students, they aim to inspire a countywide conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.

International Safer Internet Day, SID is celebrated in over 140 countries. The theme for Safer Internet Day is “Together for a Better Internet”.

CBS the Green’s Transition Year Digital Media Students were selected by PDST in Technology to represent the voice of students in Munster and Ireland on all things relating to Internet use with a focus on safety for the user, “be wise when online”.

The students are representatives on the Internet Safety Youth Ambassadors Panel. They have attended training courses hosted by webwise.ie at Microsoft and Google HQ in Dublin.

The students will deliver workshops, presentations and activities to 1st year students as part of CBS The Greens’ celebrations on Safer Internet Day.

CBS The Green’s Safer Internet Day Ambassador Programme is a peer-to-peer youth training programme that gives our Transition year students an opportunity to lead an online safety campaign initiative supported by teachers, representatives from the Tralee Gardai and some special guests on the day.

In the afternoon the Transition Year students will chat with Deirdre Walsh on Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ show with their Digital Media Teacher Ms. Stack.

The students want to reach Parents/Guardians and other educators to encourage people to visit webwise.ie and access the wonderful internet safety resources and guides available.

The website webwise.ie has opportunities for competition entries for all ages, and the school recommends people visit the site and take part.

CBS The Green would like to encourage participation from families on February 11 by having discussions around Internet Safety in the home as well as at school.
