NEARLY 300 students from CBS The Green took part in a ‘fasting’ fundraiser on Tuesday in aid of Trócaire.
Organised by the religion department at the school — Geraldine O’Dwyer, Fionán Fitzgerald, Anthony Cronin, Caroline Crowley and Emer O’Daly — there was great participation from first years right up to sixth years.
The students had the option to abstain from food, talking or from using their phones from 9am to 9pm and they had sponsorship cards asking people to donate.

“All funds go to Trócaire and €20 will feed a hot meal for a family of four people in Somalia for a month,” said teacher Geraldine O’Dwyer. After all the cards came in, €2,000 was raised.
“There’s been great support from students and from their families — some parents are happily supporting the ‘no device’ fast while teachers are happy to contribute to the ‘no talking’ aspect!” joked Geraldine.
