THE CBS The Green Minor boys’ team took home silver medals in the All Ireland Cross Country Championships  in Santry, Dublin on Saturday last.

The team consisting of Maurice Lenihan, Sean Og Brosnan, Eoin O’Flaherty, David Lucid, Hugh Lenihan, Keelan Best, Ryan Houlihan and Liam Og O’Connor ran the race of their lives to comfortably secure 2nd place in a very competitive field.

“Cross country running  has always played a huge role in CBS, The Green owing solely to the input and passion of recently retired teacher Damien McLoughlin. We are delighted to continue this tradition and create history in the sport by reaching silver status in the minor team event at an All Ireland level,” said one of the coaches, Helen Kelliher.

“Pure unadulterated sport was how Cross Country running was described on Saturday in  Santry.  It is a mental and physical battle from start to finish. There is nowhere to hide. The athlete is completely exposed. But it is all of this that makes the victory so sweet,” said Helen.

“Jack O’Donoghue (intermediate) also ran the race of his life on Saturday when he lined up with the best in the country  and completed his 5K race in under 19 minutes.
We at CBS, the Green are very proud of our nine athletes who ran at this prestigious event. What a beginning for these boys’athletic careers,” said Helen.
