Census 2016 Reveals Catholics Down In Tralee While ‘No Religion’ Up Dramatically

THE number of Catholics in Tralee fell by around seven percent in five years according to the latest stats from Census 2016.

It also shows a rise a dramatic rise in those who have no religion, an increase in the number of Muslims in town and a slight fall in Church of Ireland followers.

The number of Roman Catholics fell from 19,768 in 2011 to 18,329 in 2016, a fall of 1,439 or seven percent.

People who stated they have no religion on the census form were up 554, from 1,061 in 2011 to 1,615 in 2016, around a 50% increase.

The number of Muslims increased by 104, from 833 in 2011 to 937 last year (around 12 percent) while Church of Ireland fell by nine from 480 in 2011 to 471 in 2016. Here’s a rundown of other religions in the Tralee area;
