The CH Santa Parade is a highlight of the Christmas season in Tralee.

FOLLOWING this morning’ announcement that the Kerry County Museum ‘Festive Hall’ experience will not take place, there was more expected bad news this afternoon.

CH Tralee has announced that it’s annual Santa Parade through the town centre and the Santaland Grotto experience has also been cancelled for the festive season due to the ongoing pandemic and will return in 2021.

The parade, usually held on the last weekend of November, was the signal for the real beginning of the festive season in Tralee and was enjoyed by hundreds of people who lined the streets.

A statement from Peter & Claire Harty and all the CH Team on their facebook page this afternoon reads; “Christmas at CH is something that we take great pride in and each year our team works tirelessly to prepare our annual Christmas Parade and Santa’s Grotto.

There is no better feeling than seeing the joy amongst the many faces both young and old who enjoy these special occasions.

This year we realise that things will be different. However, we are happy in the knowledge that Santa will be visiting Kerry at Christmas time.

To protect each other we have made the tough decision to rest our street parade and grotto until 2021 so that public safety guidelines can be adhered to. While we acknowledge that people will be disappointed, it is important that everyone can stay safe and enjoy Christmas at home with their loved ones.

Christmas will be celebrated at CH this year as we pay tribute to the community that has supported us for over fifty years. CH has chosen three local charities to support this Christmas namely the Kerry Hospice Foundation, St. Vincent de Paul, Kerry and the Samaritans, Kerry branch. It will be different this year but that’s not to say it can’t be very special for you and yours.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you kindly for your support and we look forward to welcoming you in store in the future.”
