THE new President of Tralee Lions Club, Michael Higgins, officially received his chain of office this week from outgoing President Mark Boyle.

Michael is an accountant with Ardfert Quarries and is originally from The Kerries, now living in Blennerville.

A member of the Lions Club for the past three years, Michael lived in Dublin and Cork for a number of years before returning  to Kerry.

“The main challenge we’re facing is growing our membership, thereby we can carry on with more fundraising activities and get more money in for needy causes around the town,” said Michael.

The Lions Club carry out a number of activities throughout the year including community work with Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre, Eagle Lodge, the community bus trip and meals on wheels as well as their annual Christmas appeal, quiz night and golf classic.
