Ciara Whelan and Jon Slattery of the TV3 Travel Show will visit Tralee next month for the ‘Learn From The Best’ seminar.

TV3 Travel Show presenters, Jon Slattery and Ciara Whelan will be the special guests at a major Tourism Information Conference being organised by Tralee Chamber Alliance at Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee next month.

The ‘Learn from the Best in Tourism’ Conference, sponsored by Bank of Ireland, will feature tourism experts from three of Ireland’s most successful tourism towns – Killarney, Westport and Kilkenny.

The CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kieran Ruttledge, said: “A recent trip by some Tralee Chamber Alliance members to Westport, Co Mayo inspired us to stage this event. In Westport, they have got it right and, not unlike many other towns, we want to get it right too! We are always striving to learn more about how we can boost Tralee’s profile as the ideal holiday base. To that end, we decided to host a conference at which some tourism experts would share their knowledge and expertise with us and other like-minded towns.”

The event will commence at 9.30am and the opening address will be given by former Radio Kerry Presenter, Jon Slattery and his fiancé, Ciara Whelan who co-present The Travel Show on TV3.

Jon and Ciara have travelled the length and breadth of Ireland promoting the cities, towns and villages and their respective tourist attractions to a mass TV audience. During their travels, and in their dealings with Local Authorities and Tourism Bodies, they have gained much valuable experience in what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to tourism.

There will be five presentations from accomplished tourism professionals and academics including Raymond Keaney, Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality at Dublin Institute of Technology. He will focus on where the tourism industry is at the moment.

Mike Buckley, Managing Director of Kerry Coaches, will outline how Killarney has developed into a leading international visitor destination and Simon Wall, a Town Architect to the town of Westport, Co Mayo will underline the importance of strong planning policy when developing a tourism strategy.

David McNulty from Tourism Development International will speak on the need to differentiate and the final speaker on the day will be Colin Ahern, Chairman of Kilkenny Tourism, who will describe how Kilkenny has been successful in Tourism Town and Tidy Competitions year after year.
