Charlie Kerins To Be Remembered At GAA Club’s Annual 10k/5k Event

HUNDREDS take part in the event every year and the annual Kerins O’Rahillys 10k run and 5k fun run is set to be another big draw on Sunday, January 26.

Held in association with FBD Insurance, this year’s run will honour the memory of Charlie Kerins.

“Kerins O’Rahillys are delighted to be honouring Charlie Kerins for our 5km/10 km walk /run this year as it marks the 75th anniversary of his execution,” said Club Chairman, Haulie Kerins, a the launch of the event on Saturday at the Kerins O’Rahillys clubhouse.

“Charlie was a scholar, a great republican and former club footballer having won a senior county championship with O’Rahillys in 1939. Our annual 10 km run /walk  represents the beginning of our club season and we encourage all our members to participate as it’s a great family day out,” added Haulie.

The run will once again take place from the clubhouse at Strand Road on Sunday, January 26, at 11am. This is a chip-timed event opened to runners and walkers. There are individual men’s and women’s categories and a teams of four event.

The route is similar to other years taking in Cahills Park, Ballyvelly, The Kerries, Spa and Knockanish before finishing back in the club house.

There is a finishers medal for all participants. Registration is €20 for the 5k race and €25 for the 10k. People can register online by clicking here on Saturday, January 25 between 2pm and 8pm at the clubhouse or on the morning of the race between 8am and 10.30am.
