THE CHRISTIE Hennessy Celebration is upon us once again and takes place over the weekend in the Fels Point Hotel.
It’s a great two days of music from artists from Tralee and beyond. Here is a run down of what’s in store for music fans in town.
Friday
Troubadour Club, Fels Point Hotel, 8pm
At the ‘Troubadour Club’ the emphasis is on songwriters. Former Eurovision contestant, Mickey Harte, is one of eight acts who will be showcasing their work.
For this event, the festival are giving the added incentive for people to get down early by offering music fans a free pint when they pay the €5 admission before 9pm.
The acts taking part on the night include Victor McCullough, formerly of legendary Tralee band ‘Stagalee’ and Fiach, who is a, singer/songwriter, from Dublin, fast gaining recognition on the Irish scene.
There are also local performers, in the guise of our very own funkmaster, Gary Keane, also well known face in town, John Buggy with his band, plus up and coming acts, Q14 and Chapter 2. On the bill as well is Berlin based songwriter, Robert Delaney.
Saturday
Songwriters Workshop with Mickey Harte 12pm
Presuming you haven’t overdone it the night before, Mickey Harte will be leading a FREE songwriting workshop. If you are interested in this event, email info@tralee.ie.
IMRO Christie Hennessey Song Contest Final 8pm
Don Baker, the legendary Blues harmonica player is this year’s special guest on the Saturday night final of the IMRO song contest. Don will be performing whilst the judges deliberate on the winning song.
