Fun at the Variety Show.

Summer Variety Show: Last Sunday saw around 250 people in attendance for the Churchill GAA Summer Variety Show in Ballyroe Heights Hotel and what a night we had. We thank all our Acts, who gave generously of their time, and put on a fantastic night’s entertainment. Once again, this was first and foremost a community gathering and a chance to meet with friends and neighbours and enjoy the best of local talent.

A special word of thanks too to our MC for the night, Sinead Cotter, who has been the one common denominator through our three events over the last three years.

John Murray on stage at the show.

Congratulations and well done to Churchill’s Joe Lenihan, who lined out at midfield for the Kerry minors in their comprehensive win over Cork in midweek.

Senior: After a break of a couple of weeks, the Churchill Seniors are back in Co League action this weekend when we travel to Duagh looking to maintain our good start to the season. This one throws in at 7pm on Saturday evening in Duagh.

U12 Girls: Our U12 girls played at home Sunday against Laune Rangers in the 3rd round of the County League. It was a perfect day for football and Churchill started brightly and took an early lead, but it was Laune Rangers who played better football in the first half.

Then Grace Hamilton won a lovely ball and absolutely smashes it into the net to leave the sides level at half time. The 2nd have was a great battle but Laune Rangers missed several chances up front. Our defence was solid and with 2 minutes to go we found ourselves trailing by 2 points. Then from the half way line Lily May made an extraordinary run and drilled home the winning goal to give Churchill a famous win.

We are so very proud of the girls, the way they represented our club and their families. Today was a team performance and when we needed to dig deep we did so in the last 10 minutes. They’re such a brilliant group of girls. Final score Churchill 2-2; Laune Rangers 0-7.

Captain Rhea led by example and Grace Reilly gave a girl of the match performance.  A special mention must also go to goalkeeper Rebecca Naughton who made some great saves to keep us in the match.

U12 Boys: Our u12 boys played the last of their Division 2 matches in the county League against Killarney Legion on Sunday evening. This was a tough affair with both forward lines doing very well. With the wind behind Churchill in the first half we were unlucky to only have a 4 point lead at the break.

The 2nd half was played with high tempo and pace with both sides playing well. Legion had fast pace up front and in the end it was this that decided the game. A close affair but Churchill coming out the wrong side … Churchill 4-14 legion 5-15.
