Last Sunday, in glorious conditions, Churchill welcomed Austin Stacks, Ballymac and Ardfert to The Spa for the annual Siobhan Cotter Juvenile Tournament.

The field was a buzz of activity as U7s, U8s, U9s and U10s from each team played a series of matches against each other to see who would have the honour of taking home the Siobhan Cotter Cup, won for the past 2 years by Ballymac.

After some excellent and very competitive matches, where each team gave of their all, Austin Stacks and Ballymac finished tied on 14 points, with Churchill on 13 points.

For the first time ever, a playoff was needed to decide the winners. In the end, it was Stacks that emerged victorious and Sinead Cotter presented the Cup to the winning captain.

Churchill GAA would like to thank all the visiting teams and the referees for what was a  very sporting and enjoyable tournament.

In particular, well done to all the Churchill boys and girls who played their hearts out. All the mentors were very proud of the performances and it was obvious that all the hard training during the year had paid off. Don’t forget to keep practicing during the winter.

St. Brendans Championship

Churchill 1-14

St. Pats 2-16

A very understrength Churchill team, missing a number of regulars, were beaten in the Semi-Final of the Brendans Championship last Saturday in Blennerville. In what was a very entertaining and high scoring game, St. Pats just had the upper hand and found it that bit easier to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Churchill were only 3 points in arrears at half time but despite some great scores, they couldn’t bridge the gap. Hopefully the team will be back to full strength for their final Co. League game vs Firies in a few weeks time, as victory is a necessity to retain our Div. 4 status.

Scorers: Ger McCarthy (0-7), Ivan Parker (0-3), Cathal Rogers (1-0), Mikey Brennan (0-2), Des McCarthy (0-1), Shane Crowley (0-1)
