U6/U8/U10 Academy:  It was a busy week for the Academy with Churchill hosting 2 rounds of the St. Brendan’s League go-games in the Spa.  The U8 contingent took part in 5 games against St. Pats, Ardfert A & B and Ballyheigue A & B on Wednesday evening. All games were evenly contested and the skills on show by all teams were very impressive. In particular the performances of Sean Cronin, Michael O’Sullivan, Conor McGibney & Tom Lenihan were very impressive for the Green team. Likewise Sean Hickey, Eamon Hickey, Sarah O’Sullivan, Luke O’Carroll and Cillian O’Brien ensure the Black team excelled in all their games. Well done to everyone involved.

The U10 played their 4 games on a glorious Thursday evening against teams from the same clubs. Again there was evidence of great skills on show and with the tenacity and determination of players like Hugh and Maurice Lenihan, Ryan Hickey, Jessica McGibney, Billy Doyle, Tom Quilter and Sean-Michael Redican, Churchill performed extremely well in all their games. Keep up the good work.

With the Donal Walsh Fun Run/Walk and fun day there was no training last Sunday but academy training will resume this Sunday at 11AM in the pitch in the Spa.

Under 12: On the most beautiful, warm evening our Under 12’s travelled to the picturesque Glenbeigh to take on the locals in Round 3 of the County League. After taking part in the Donal Walsh Fundraising run earlier in the day, the boys put in an excellent display in both games.

Our Green team came away with a draw on the scoreline of Churchill 3-16 to Glenbeigh’s 5-10. They were up against it from the off against a very physical side, who got some early goals.

But some super scores from David Feeley, with a couple of goals, and Dylan Ryan, and some tenacious defending from Harvey, Ben and the lively Barry got us back into the game and we trailed by 4 at half time.

Churchill really upped it at the beginning of the second half, with Eddie sweeping up everything in the backs and Cian and Oisin really getting to grips with things around the middle. Oran and Donagh, who put in his best performance of the season so far, helped us move ahead by 4 points.

It was even right up to the very end, and a draw was a very fair result. Credit must go to David in goals who pulled off some fantastic saves. Dylan came away with a man of the match display kicking 1-4.

Our Black team, after a great win the week before, put in another very impressive performance, running out winners on a scoreline of 5-15 to 1-3. They are improving immensely every week. Diarmuid was very solid in goals, and when he moved out the field had a super game.

The backs of Ruairi, Eryc, Daragh and Gearoid were tough in their tackling, and set up some great attacks with some brilliant support play. Gearoid came away with 3 fantastic points. The forwards were constantly moving, and a real thorn in the Glenbeigh side.

Josh with his trusted left leg kicked some lovely points, Kieran was passing well to the others, Billy was his usual lively and skilful self, linking up with Donagh and Ronan (great to welcome back Ronan after his few weeks off injured).

The backbone of this win came from the impressive Cian Mason and John Joe Hanafin at midfield. Impossible to pick a man of the match from this game, super performances all around! Well done lads! Training continues Thursday as usual, 6.15-7.15pm in Spa Field, with an away trip to Scartaglin next Sunday evening.

U16: The boys had performed well throughout the central league to reach the Final which was held in Castlegregory on Monday, 23rd May. Despite performing well they came up just short on a score-line of 2-07 to 1-06.

In a very cagey affair where An Ghaeltacht put an emphasis on defending, Churchill struggled to break down the large numbers they had back in defence.  The lads must now dust themselves down as they will be starting the county league campaign after the exams.

Girls Under 14: The girls haven’t had a match in a few weeks due to exams, but are training twice a week and showing some huge improvement. Numbers are great at training always and they are showing great enthusiasm to continue learning and improve.

Training continues Tuesday evening 6.15 to 7.30pm in Spa Field, with a trip away to Spa, Killarney next weekend. Date and time to be decided. Keep it up girls!

Seniors: The Co League returns this weekend after a six week break. Churchill are in action against Dr Crokes B. Throw in is at 2pm on Sunday 5th in the Spa pitch.

Juniors: Churchill suffered their second defeat in the league away to St Pats last Friday evening. Churchill played well in patches, but couldn’t recover from the concession of early goals. The second half was a tight affair, but St Pats hung onto their early lead to register the win. Next up for Churchill is a trip to Ballymac this Friday. Throw in at 7:30.
