An under strength Churchill team came up short away to Na Gaeil on Saturday night. The lads, up against it, put in a gutsy display to narrow the gap to 3 point 10 minutes into the 2nd half but Na Gaeil finished out stronger to win my 3-11 to 1-08.

The B team will be playing Ballydonaghue away in Group 2 of the Junior league on Friday night at 7PM. Our seniors will be out this weekend away to Moyvane with times and dates to be confirmed.

Boys U12:

Pride of place this week must go to our Under 12 Boys, who on Sunday evening, were crowned Division 4 County League winners. Our Green and Black teams took on Beaufort, in a top of the table clash, with both teams winning their games.

The Green Team were quick out of the blocks with a couple of fantastic points from the lively, and accurate David Feeley. However, Beaufort scored a goal to put the pressure back on. The backline started to steady the ship, led by the tough tackling of Ben Donnellan and Barry Hammilton. Harvey Brosnan was superb in the full backline, reading the ball and passing out of the defence superbly. Eddie, Cian O’ Gara and Oisin McGibney were starting to get a grip in the middle of the field and drove forward at every opportunity, linking well with the forwards and kicking some lovely scores.

We kept it going for the second half, with our forwards showing well and the highlight of the night was our ability to kick some brilliant points. Cian Mason really came into his own in the second half, scoring a wonderful goal and laying off well. Oran was as lively and skilful as ever, kicking brilliantly off both feet while Donnagh Stephenson, my man of the match, was first to every ball, showed skill in abundance and kicked some brilliant scores. Churchill ran out 3-17 to 3-9 winners.

The Black team continued where they left off last week with a convincing win over Beaufort. Eryk was fantastic in goals, and when he came out the field. His kick outs were accurate and made some wonderful saves. In front of him, was the ever reliable and strong defence of Ruairi Burns, Gearoid O Connor, Art O Sullivan and Darragh Gurney.

They have impressed all year as a defensive unit, but also bursting up the field to support the others. John Joe Hanafin and Billy Walsh were really on top of their games again, linking well into the forwards and kicking some great scores themselves.

Paddy Falvey, Donagh Murphy and captain Ronan Kelly orchestrated things on the 40, linking play between midfield and the other forwards of the ever improving and superbly skilful Josh Elvins, Kiearan Cahill and Dylan Walsh. The stand out from this game was the boys fantastic score taking. They ran out comfortable winners 5-15 to 1-1.

So a huge congratulations to all the boys on winning the County League and to their mentors Ciaran Moore, Paul O Connor and Brendan Kelly.

And a special thanks to all the parents for their continuous support ata ll the matches, it is very much appreciated. Well done again boys, keep up the practice. Training resumes this Thursday 6.15 to 7.15pm and Sunday 6-7pm in Spa Field in preperation for Central League in few weeks!

The U10 academy took part in the St Brendans Go-Games Blitz in Ardfert on Wednesday evening. Six strong teams from Churchill, Ardfert, St. Pats and Ballyheighue battled each other for 3 matches.

The real winner on the night was the GAA. Players from every team (Churchill, Ardfert, St. Pats and Ballyheighue) showed great determination and joy showcasing their skills of the game.

We had a strong panel of over 24 players so were able to field 2 teams and the training and games are really beginning to benefit us with both teams doing exceptionally well. A big thanks and well done to Ardfert for hosting the event.

The U8 group will take part in their equivalent outing also in Ardfert this Monday at 6:30PM.

Academy training this Sunday, 19th June will be replaced with a trip to Laune Rangers who will accommodate games for all our ages. All details to be communicated further by the mentors.
