Churchill were awarded the points from the final County League game of the season as Valentia were unable to fulfil the fixture. Despite this we were still in the bottom 3 as Renard beat Moyvane, so we will play in Division 5 next year. This was a difficult year for the Seniors as many players were unavailable for a large part of the season. Hopefully we can regroup and push for immediate promotion next season.

U14 Division 2 Central Region League Champions

The U14’s had to hold off a last minute onslaught from Ardfert to win the Under 14, Central Region League, Division 2 title in Na Gaeil on Friday evening.

Churchill started the brighter and dominated possession for the 1st half. They were running hard at the Ardfert back line and after converting a few close in points and frees, they eventually got their goal when awarded a penalty which Joe Lenihan dispatched.

Ardfert, playing against a stiff breeze plugged away and had the deficit halved by 20 minutes.

Before the break Churchill struck for another goal through Paddy Walsh after being setup by a strong run through the centre by Damien Doherty.

Churchill led by 2-03 to 0-04 at half time.

In the 2nd Half Churchill looked to be comfortable after a fine solo effort from Doherty led to another goal. However as the game neared the end Ardfert had to go for it and pounced for a goal. Churchill looked to be in the driving seat again by the end when Sean Clifford stepped up with a fine finish to the net but conceded straight away after and had Micheál Dolan to thank in the end after he saved a penalty in the dying moments.

Churchill held on to win by 4-08 vs 3-07.

Well done to the whole team and management on their success and congratulations to Damien Doherty for picking up the Man-of-the-Match award.

Academy:

The U10 travelled by bus to Annascaul to take on Annascaul/Lispole in some go-games.

After a fragmented summer due to holidays and events it was a great occasion to get things back on track and give the kids a renewed sense of enjoyment and purpose for the final few weeks.

The matches went very well with all players exhibiting the skills taught at training over the summer.

Our mixed aged teams both won comfortably and in preparation for the up-coming Siobhán Cotter tournament it was very pleasing to see both our U9 and U10 age-groups come away with wins.

Well done to everyone involved.

The U8/U6 trained on Sunday at normal at 11AM in the Spa. With the return of school it was great to see the numbers back at such high levels. With only a few weeks left in the season and the Siobhán Cotter tournament on the way we hope to see this continue and we will be closing off the year with a good mix of training sessions and matches.

There U10 will train on Wednesday at 7PM in the Spa.

All academy ages of U6/U8/U10 will play a match at home in the Spa against Keel next Sunday at 11AM.
