On Friday night last our U16 team won their final against Milltown/Castlemaine to gain the title of Div3 County League winners for 2016. Churchill were slow out of the blocks in the 1st half and struggled to get scores, particularly from play.

However, their hard work and effort led to some crucial frees and at half time Churchill were happy to be only trailing by the minimum on a score line of 0-04 to 0-05.

In the 2nd half Churchill put on an exhibition of determination, work rate and skill. They seemed to dispense with the sweeper and hit Milltown/Castlemaine quick and hard with some direct running and fast passes into the corners.

Milltown/Castlemaine came back in the end and were awarded a late penalty to cut the deficit but Churchill had a sufficient lead and went on the win on a score of 2-09 to 2-05.

Well done the whole team and mentors of, Team: Ciaran Murray, Cian Donnellan, Kevin O Connor, Killian o Sullivan, Daniel Greater, Sean Hamilton, Harry Benner, Paul Buckley, Jason Mortimer, Liam O Donnell, Brendan Walsh, Jack Dolan, Paul Linehan, Conor Corrigan, Damien Doherty, Joe Linehan, Luke Doherty, Jack Falvey, Micheal Dolan. Mentors: Peter Linehan, Jim O’Donnell, Dave Buckley, Regina Dolan.

U14:
On Sunday afternoon our U14 team put up a very brave display against Austin Stacks at home in our new field in Churchill. This Division 1 game in the Town District league was always going to be a strong test for the squad but they should be extremely proud of their efforts. Churchill were well in this game and must rue the fact they gave up some quick and soft goals in either half.

In general play Churchill were a threat and took some great scores. In the end they went down on a score of 9-07 to 4-09 but if they keep performing like this the wins will come. On Thursday night they play NaGaeil in the Brendan’s Final at 5:45PM in the Spa.

Academy:
On Sunday morning our Academy ages were surprised by appearances from our U14 and U16 panels whom respectively won their central league and county league titles over recent weeks. The kids were extremely proud to get to take pictures with the teams and trophies, and in turn the captains Damien Doherty and Harry Benner gave advice on what they should continue doing to achieve similar success in the future. Thanks to the teams, mentors and parents for facilitating this occasion.

On Friday evening, Micháel Quirke took a coaching session for out U8 panel. The kids were delighted with the amount of fun and games he introduced and Churchill would like to offer their gratitude to him for facilitating the session.

This week, the U10 will train again on Wednesday at 5:45 in the Spa. On Sunday the U6 will train as normal in the Spa and the U8/U10 teams will travel to Keel for some games. Further details will be communicated via text.
