U10: There was a big turnout for U10s again last Sunday morning and it was great to see so many parents supporting their children and meeting the other parents.

The players skill levels improving each week and it is obvious that a lot of practice is being put in between training sessions. This week’s award winners were,  Jack O Dwyer, Conor McGibney, Sean Cronin and Charlie Nolan. Training continues Wednesday from 7-8.

U12 Ladies: The Churchill ladies U12’s continued on their winning ways in the North Kerry League when they overcame Annascaul in the Spa on Sunday evening last. In the first half, we started well with our forwards taking some excellent scores while at the same time our backs were defending resolutely with Jessica McGibney & Laura Reilly in particular doing trojan work.

Half time score: Churchill 2-03 Annascaul 1-04. In the second half, with the sun & the breeze at our backs, Churchill pushed on again, with Molly McDaid, Lily Parker & Muireann O’Brien tormenting the Annascaul defence.

They were ably assisted by the midfield partnership of Lisa Cassidy & Orlaith McKenna. Full time score: Churchill 5-12 Annascaul 2-07. Churchill now await their opposition in the playoffs of this competition while at the same time need to start preparing for the County League which will be commencing shortly.

U12: Under 12 Division 2A Glenflesk 3-11 Churchill 3-08. This was a thrilling open entertaining game played in Glenflesk on Sunday night. Missing 3 of the team that played last week, Josh Evans and Ronan Kelly more than deputised with Ronan scoring 2 opportunist goals and Josh scoring a well taken point.

Quick moving link play especially between Oran Murphy, Hugh and Maurice Lenihan and Cian O’Gara resulted in some great scores and 3 first half goals. Leading by 2 points at half time, Churchill were slow out of the blocks for the second half, but recovered well and almost grabbed a draw except for some dubious decisions and hitting the cross bar 3 times.

Paddy Falvey and Art O’Sullivan played their best games of the season and David Chute was his brilliant self, keeping us in the game at times. Barry Hamilton continued from where he left off but man of the match was the outstanding Billy Walsh at wing back.

This was the last game of phase 1 and hopefully we will retain our Div 2 status as we have settled well and will play any of these sides with confidence. Well done boys and keep up the good work.

An understrength Churchill U-12 ‘B’ team suffered only their second defeat of the league after a great performance against a much physically stronger Glenflesk team last Sunday evening. After a slow start for the second week in a row, the team came roaring back towards the end of the first half.

Once the backs got to grips with their men, led by Gearoid and Donagh, the midfielders Josh F and Ryan drove on and the forwards Tom, Dara and Daithi started to get the scoreboard ticking over. At halftime, there was only 9 points between the teams.

In the second half, Churchill showed great teamwork and kept up the fight and battled until the very end.

With Tom and Ryan now in the backs, and Donnacha in goals, the defence was doing a great job at withstanding the Glenflesk forwards. With Gearoid moved to midfield alongside Josh, there was a great supply of ball going into the forwards who fought for every ball.

While Glenflesk were just a bit too far ahead, it was fitting that it was Churchill got the last score of the game with a great goal by Conor. Overall it was a great performance against the odds. Well done to all the boys.

U14: Churchill U14’s narrowly missed out on a place in the Feile Semi-Finals so we had a break from matches this weekend. However there were three training sessions last week to prepare for the last game of the County League this week and our semi-final next week (and hopefully qualify for the final the following Wednesday).

This week’s match is against Keel/Listry and we are likely away to Causeway in the semi-final next week. Training is going well, with thanks to PJ O’Mahoney, who is now departed for the US, and Gearoid O’Sullivan for the great coaching!

U-16 training continues on Wednesday 10th May, in the new pitch, 7.15-8.30pm. Good attendance is important as we prepare for the County League.
