Strictly Come Dancing: There was a gathering of dancers and organisers of the recent strictly event last Saturday night in the Oyster Tavern to acknowledge the efforts of those involved in putting the Strictly event together a few weeks back.

As part of the night cheques were presented to representatives of the nominated winning charities, MS Ireland and Donal Walsh Live Life followed by a screening of the DVD of the event.

Once again the club would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the dancers and organisers who put in so much effort to make sure the evening was a huge success.

Academy: Academy training is in full flow with over 60 children from Under 6 to Under 10 attending each week and showing great progress. It is clear that there is lots of practice between sessions and great credit to the team of trainers and mentors that are there every week and run a very enjoyable session. Training continues this Sunday morning from 11 -12.

U10: Churchill hosted the St Brendans board blitz last Tuesday in The Spa. Congratulations to all U10’s who performed brilliantly on the day. There were great numbers in attendance again this Sunday for training. Trophy winners this week were: Arie O’Shea, Eoghan Crowley, Anna O’Sullivan, Tom Quilter and Anna Chute. Training continues Wednesday 7-8, and Sunday 11-12.

U12A: Churchill 3-13 Moyvane 5-14. This was round 1 of phase 2 and the second time we’ve come up short against a strong Moyvane team this year. Playing with a strong wind in the first half, we lead at HT by 2-09 to 2-04 after using the wind very sensibly and economically.

However, Moyvane’s physical strength came out on top in the second half. Ironically, it was our 4 under 11’s, Art, Hugh, Billy Doyle and Maurice along with Oisin and Barry who stood up the most. In fairness, we battled hard but disappointing that we didn’t make Moyvane work harder in the second half.

Man of the match was Hugh Lenihan who left everything on the pitch.  We look forward to bouncing back from this with Fossa away next Sunday.

U12B: On Sunday evening in our new pitch our u12 Bs were far too strong for a battling Moyvane team. We started the first half quickly playing great football with early scores from Gearoid O Connor and Ronan Kelly putting us into a commanding lead.

Josh Elvins and Daithi Murphy helped the forwards to capitalise on Darragh and Mark Gazi’s dominance in midfield. There was a very strong breeze with us in the first half and we were well ahead at half time.

The second half was a very different affair and some fantastic defending by Ryan, Rory and a Darragh ensuring we kept Moyvane at a distance. Donagh Murphy was flying at wing back and Gearoid and Mark ensured we won the midfield battle again in the second half. Tom made some great tackles and a brave Donnacha recovering from illness battled hard all night.

The passing and teamwork was a joy to behold and every player can be very proud of themselves. We ran out comfortable winners 5-20 to 1-4 and travel to Fossa on Sunday to try to continue our winning run.

U12 Girls: Churchill hosted Dingle recently in the Spa in the first round of the Co. League. Having previously played Dingle already in the North Kerry League & narrowly beating them on that occasion, Churchill knew that this game again would be a difficult task.

In the first half Churchill were stunned by 2 Dingle goals, however Churchill responded with a goal & two points from the boot of Muireann O’Brien to leave Churchill trailing by 2 points at the break. Half time Score Churchill 1-02 Dingle 2-01.

In the second half, our defence tightened up considerably & restricted Dingle to a single score, a goal coming from their No.10. In contrast, Churchill pushed on once again with a goal from Lily Parker & 3 points from Molly McDaid to win by the narrowest of margins, a single point. Full time score: Churchill 2-05 Dingle 3-01

U14: Churchill U14s headed to Moyvane for the County League semi-final. It was a glorious evening and the football was free flowing and high scoring.

There was a strong breeze that favoured Churchill in the flirst half. It took us a time to settle before the points came with Daragh O’Sullivan (7) and Eddie McCarthy (3) leading the way. Goals from Daragh, Conor Brick and Tommy Burns left us ahead at the break by 10 points, 3-10 to 1-7.

We moved the ball with good efficiency and the lads were in great form at half time. In the second half, we fought tenaciously to hold our lead, allowing only a few points in as Moyvane tried to turn the screw. Captain Eoghan Walsh and goalie Paddy O’Sullivan made some great interventions to limit Moyvane to points initially while Conor and Eddie kept us scoring with points.

It was hard work to get the ball up the particularly long field into the wind with Paddy Walsh, Cian Kearney working very hard after Eddie, Daragh and Tommy picked up injuries. Moyvane then struck for 3 goals in quick succession to bring them back into the game.

Ruairi Burns and Ben Donnellan were very effective in marking their men and played very well. Eddie scored a fantastic goal to keep us ahead but Moyvane kept the ball in our half for long periods.

Points from breaks for Tommy and Conor and another goal from Daragh who finished on 2-7 meant we needed points (five goal rule) but a goal from Moyvane meant we needed too many scores and they ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-14 to 5-18.

It was a very exciting game where we left everything on the field and many thanks to Gearoid for all the great training to date. We look forward to learning more in the coming competitions and improving as a squad from match to match. We are on a week’s break this week to recover and get back to training next week.

Senior B: Churchill travelled to Ballybunion to take on Beale in the first round of the Junior League.  Two early goals from the hosts was to be the difference in the end as Beale ran out winners by 7 points. Next up is a home match against Charlie Kerins this Friday where the lads will be looking to get the season on track. Throw in at 7:30.
