Race Night: Churchill GAA will be holding a Race Night on Friday 27th October in the Tankard. This is always a great nights entertainment and is a great social night in the Parish. Tickets and a share in a horse are €20 and are available from any member of the Executive. More details will be posted on the Churchill GAA Facebook page.

Senior B: Churchill will travel to Renard in the Quarter-Final of the Cahill Cup this Saturday evening. Throw in is at 6pm.

Minors: Churchill were narrowly defeated by John Mitchels in the Final of the Central League Division 2 on Sunday evening in Austin Stacks Park. In a close fought game Mitchels ran out winners by three points, 1-15 to 2-09.

U16: Churchill U-16s play Austin Stacks (B) at home in the first round of the Tralee Town League this Wednesday night 13th September in the New Pitch at 6.30 pm. We are away in our remaining two games in the League to Ballymac and John Mitchels.

U12 Ladies: It has been a busy week for the girls. Last Tuesday night the girls were at home to Austin Stacks B in the Tralee Town League. Leading by 4 points at half time & with Orla McKenna giving an exhibition on the night, Churchill pushed on to beat the Stacks to reach the final of this competition.

One aspect of this game which was a pleasure to see was some excellent point taking by the Churchill girls. In the final last Sunday, we played St Pats at Ballyrickard in what was a most entertaining, tough but fair game of football where it was evident that neither side wanted to lose.

With strong winds & heavy showers making it very difficult to score, Churchill struggled at times in the first half & lead by 2 points at half time. However, in the second half, the girls really showed how much they wanted to win this game and fought for everything.

They dominated St Pats for long periods and got some vital scores at important stages to eventually win on a scoreline of; Churchill 3-03 St Pats 1-02. Lisa Cassidy Captain accepted the cup on behalf of the team.

U13:  Our U13 team took part in the Austin Stacks Invitational Blitz at the weekend where we were pitted against the hosts, Naas, Co Kildare and Oranmore/Maree of Galway.

We first faced Austin Stacks with Ben Donnellan captaining the team from half back. We started with the strong breeze and led 3 points to 1 at halftime with an Eddie McCarthy pointed free taken from the ground the highlight of our scores. We hope to keep stacks at bay but they quickly fired a goal and a point to leave us chasing the game. A few points from Eddie and a Cian OGara goal had us back in the game but we lost out by 6 points at the final whistle.

In the second game we played Naas and they were a huge team and fancied to win the overall competition. Again, Captain Eddie McCarthy won the toss and we had the wind but couldn’t make any headway. Cian OGara battled valiantly until he twisted his ankle and had to come off. Naas ran out comfortable winners.

In the final game between ourselves and Oranmore/Maree, Ruairi Burns was captain and we played into the wind in the first half and hoped to keep them out. David Chute made some great saves yet a bigger team ran through for some great goals. In the second half we responded with 1-2 from Eddie, and points from Dylan Walsh and Harvey Brosnan but we lost out.

Austin Stacks won their semi-final as did Naas so we were up against a strong selection. Training has usual resumed this week and we look forward to the U14 St Brendan’s board semi-final on October 7th.
