A CHURCHILL teenager has become the first member of Tralee Sailing Club to win a Laser Regional Championship in the sport.
Tadhg Ó Loingsigh from Churchill had a very impressive win in the Connaught Laser Radial Championship in Lough Derg last weekend.
Tadhg lead from the start with wins in the first and second races on the Saturday and sealed his championship with a well-managed fifth place in the final race on Sunday.
Tadhg has been sailing with Tralee Bay Sailing Club since the age of eight and has just completed his Leaving Certificate in the Gaelcholáiste in Tra Lí. He is the son of Niall and Suzanne Ó Loingsigh.
Tadhg is the first member of Tralee Bay Sailing Club to win a Laser Regional Event.
“I am delighted to win after many years of trying,” said Tadhg. “I would like to thank Tralee Bay Sailing Club and everyone who has sailed with, coached and encouraged me over the years. I hope this will encourage other young club members in Tralee.”
Tadhg will work as a sailing coach during the summer in Lough Derg, Dun Laoghaire and Tralee.
