A FIANNA Fáil councillor has called for an end to the practice of asking new tenants for a deposit prior to taking up a house with the local authority.
Cllr Norma Foley asked why this was the case in Tralee and not in any other part of the county at the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council on Monday.
In reply, the Council said it had been practice in the former Tralee Town Council area to seek a deposit from new tenants.
This practice was not applied elsewhere in the county by Kerry County Council or by the former Town Councils of Killarney and Listowel.
Management said they are currently reviewing these practices and procedures across the county “to ensure standardisation of approach and consistency across the county”.
Cllr Foley was assured by management that the matter would be reviewed at the earliest opportunity.
